She is a legend when it comes to fashion. I am talking about Iris Apfel, an epitome of the New York grand dame of style who is well known for her quirkiness. Iris is always engaged in the design of colorful and unique fashion trends. The fashion veteran is aged 96.
As one of the leading pioneer fashionistas, Iris became famous in the fashion industry close to a decade ago when the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute made her the center of a fashion retrospective. Before that, Iris was a renowned interior designer who had worked with 9 U.S presidents.
Iris has confessed before that one of her great talents is shopping. About three years ago, she appeared in a Maysles documentary. In the documentary, she recalls working at Loehmann’s, a chain of department stores that used to exist in the United States. While working there, a manager once told me that she has a deep sense of style. Whenever she is being interviewed, the legendary fashionista tends to embrace her first design ideas. Iris’s way of life reflects her love for fashion and design.
At the top of her bucket list, Apfel wants to go to India. Perhaps this explains why the fashion icon’s recent and first ever shoot was for an Indian magazine.
